We hope you and your families are doing well and enjoying the summer. We are excited to share with you the plans for the coming Faith Formation year! We continue to develop the program to be more family-oriented, balancing Church and home life, empowering and encouraging parents to be witnesses of the faith and providing opportunities for families to experience God's loving presence in all they do and in all the places they are!
This is what the program will look like for the 2023/2024 year:
- All classes will meet at the parish, except for some of the Individualized Faith Formation (IFF) classes, which are designed to assist and support children who have special needs in preparing for and receiving Sacraments.
- Class times will be one hour and fifteen minutes instead of one hour long with exceptions for IFF.
- Classes will meet, for the most part, every other week.
- There will be a Saturday/Sunday Mass component for every Level to be involved in.
- There will be Mass Reflection Forms to be completed once a month(4 for Level 1 & 6 for Levels 2-7) as well as celebrating the sacrament of Reconciliation/Confession once during the Faith Formation year (Levels 2-7).
- Children's Liturgy will be offered twice a month which will be helpful for children in completing the Mass Reflection Forms.
- Different Levels will be invited to bring cookies, donuts, etc. to Hospitality on specific Sundays that coincide with Children's Liturgy.
Level 1 will meet once a month on Saturday from 9:00 to 10:15AM in the Parish Center. Parents will sign their child into their assigned classroom and then go downstairs to meet with the other adults for hospitality and a parent presentation. They will sign their child out of class at 10:15AM.
Level 1 is an opportunity for parents to meet other parents whose children are also in Faith Formation and to become more familiar with the parish itself, the teachings of the Catholic Church and to be able to ask important questions that they might not normally feel comfortable asking or even have the opportunity to ask.
We consider Level 1 to be Parent and Child Formation. This may not apply to all families, but for many, this is the first-time parents are involved in the parish since they had their child baptized. Parents are their child’s first and best teacher when it comes to faith. We are here and happy to support and assist parents in what is both their right and responsibility.
We want all to feel welcome and familiar with the life of the parish as your child begins preparation for the Sacraments.
Levels 2-6 will meet at the same time so parents will be able to drop off their children of different levels all at the same time. Level's 2-6 will meet Tuesday and Thursday from 4:45 to 6:00PM and on Wednesday from 5:15 to 6:30PM. Please choose one of these days. Classes will meet once per week, every other week, on the day and time you choose.
Levels 3,4,5 Home Taught will meet once a month on Saturday from 10:30 - 11:45AM for a lesson and/or activity. The remaining lessons will be done at home and checked each month.
Level 7 will meet Tuesday and Thursday from 6:15 to 7:30PM. Please choose one of these days. Classes will meet once per week, every other week, on the day and time you choose. Level 7 will attend the 5:00PM Mass once a month on designated Saturdays.
Level 8 will have immediate preparation and celebrate Confirmation in the fall. After Confirmation, students will be invited to participate in a leadership role at the Saturday 5PM Mass once a month.

The information below is important registration information for the 2023/2024 Faith Formation year.
Your Family ID Number WILL be needed when registering your child. This number may be found underneath the name of your child's school on the email you received regarding registration. If you do not have your Family ID Number, please contact the Faith Formation office at faithformation@stsylvesterli.org for your number.
Please be sure to complete each field that has a RED asterisk. Any field with a RED asterisk that is not complete, will not process.
When choosing the class, please choose the day & time that corresponds to your child’s formation level this coming year. The student information for registration is on the email you received regarding registration and has your child’s current formation level. Should you have a Level 8 child, please click "All Level 8 students will be placed in the same class as Level 7". Children in Level 8 will be moved up and placed with the catechist they had last year. Should you have other children, you would still need to register them.
Registration fees for the 2023/2024 Faith Formation year will remain the same and are as follows:
Fees for Levels 1-7:
- $115 for 1 child

* Any child preparing for First Communion, please add $55 for each child.
** Level 8 preparing for Confirmation, $95 per child.

Please be prepared to pay your child's fees when they are registered through Faith Direct by following the prompts after you have registered or by clicking here then scrolling down until you see St. Sylvester Faith Formation under One Time Gifts or mailing a check to the attention of the Faith Formation Office. If you are not able to and would like to pay in increments during the year, that is fine. If you should need financial assistance, please contact Parish Social Ministry(Outreach) at 631-475-4506 x:123.

When beginning online registration, please be sure to have your Family ID Number. This number may be found on either your contribution envelope or on the student information for registration sheet you received via email in the upper right hand corner.

Please note that space is limited. Registration is first come, first served. Any additions to a class that has reached capacity will be made on a case by case basis and at the sole discretion of the Faith Formation Director.
If you would like a particular catechist, please register early.

Level's 2 and 7, look at the links on the Family Resource Page as well as at the top of your child's calendar for the website that you can access videos for your child to watch. We’ll be updating the Family Resource Page with more helpful information.
Mass will still be continued to be offered weekly from St. Sylvester on the parish website with Fr. Suglia. Join fellow parishioners virtually to celebrate.
